The Michigan Car Accident Lawyers with Michigan Injury Lawyers explain that drunk driving is one of the leading causes of motor vehicle collisions today. In fact, data from the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning shows that roughly 4 percent of all collisions in Michigan during 2012 listed alcohol as a contributing factor.
Drunk driving accidents were also responsible for claiming 281 lives and leaving another 5,475 motorists with injuries. These numbers mean that nearly one-third of all of Michigan’s traffic fatalities involved alcohol that year.
In an effort to reduce the number of drunk driving accidents, the Michigan State Police are planning to launch a campaign using a specially designed vehicle to get the message to motorists that drunk driving can land them in jail, or worse, kill someone.
According to an article from MLive.com, the front half of the vehicle resembles a police cruiser, while the back half is designed to look like a taxicab. The car will be displayed at events throughout the state and will offer a message to motorists to “Choose A Ride”.
The campaign will also feature depictions of the car on billboards across the state.
Michigan Injury Lawyers’s team of Michigan Personal Injury Lawyers applauds the efforts being made to keep the state’s highways safe and hope the campaign is effective in reducing the number of drunk drivers on the road.
