Michigan Ranks High Among States with Worst Nursing Home Records

An average of 30 percent of all nursing home residents will be the victims of abuse or neglect within the next year. The Michigan Nursing Home Abuse Lawyers with Michigan Injury Lawyers point out that the numbers may be even bleaker for residents of assisted living facilities in Michigan, considering the state has one of the highest elder abuse and neglect rates in the nation.

According to a report compiled by Families For Better Care, Michigan was just one of 11 states to receive the lowest grade of “F” when using a number of parameters to measure a state’s success at preventing abuse and neglect of the elderly.

The report found Michigan had the highest percentage of nursing homes cited for severe deficiencies in the nation. Furthermore, researchers concluded that every nursing home in the state had received at least one deficiency for violations of state and federal law, with more than half receiving severe deficiencies.

The study found poor staffing levels to be a major contributing factor to the state’s failing nursing home grade.

The findings leave many Michigan citizens wondering what they can do to protect their loved ones living at nursing homes form harm. Michigan Injury Lawyers’s team of Michigan Personal Injury Lawyers say visiting often and asking caregivers plenty of questions is one of the best ways to protect your loved ones from harm.
