Drunk driving is a major problem in Michigan. The Century Council estimates that, in 2011, a total of 255 people died as a result of Michigan Car Accidents caused by drunk drivers.
Alcohol consumption is being considered as a potential contributing factor to a crash yesterday that claimed the life of a young woman and left another victim seriously injured. Reports indicate the crash happened at approximately 4 a.m. on June 2 on West Grand River in Redford Township.
According to a story from ClickOn Detroit, a Detroit woman was the passenger in a vehicle being driven by a 25-year-old woman from Warren. As the vehicle traveled along the road between Beech Daily and Inkster, the driver veered off of the roadway and slammed into a tree.
The impact killed the passenger in the vehicle and left the driver with serious injuries. Paramedics rushed the surviving victim to a local hospital for treatment.
A spokesman for the Redford Township Police Department stated that the investigation into the crash remains open and that alcohol had not been ruled out as a contributing factor.
