Many Michigan residents are catching on to the benefits of commuting to work via bicycle. But with a higher volume of cyclists on the road comes the greater likelihood of a Michigan Bicycle Accident occurring.
An article from the Lansing State Journal weighed the risks and benefits of bicycle commuting for many Lansing residents, and it offered several tips to help ensure cyclists’ commutes are safe.
One of the main reasons the city has seen such a spike in bicycle commuters is the expansion of the river trail system that feeds into downtown from outlying neighborhoods. These pathways have allowed for residents to find routes to work that avoid heavy traffic and help get them to and from work quicker than in a car.
Lansing officials have also taken steps to make the downtown area more biker friendly by installing bike racks at several key locations, including outside of many state buildings.
Cyclists should do their part to stay safe during commutes by always wearing a helmet. If a person plans to commute when lighting is low, such as early in the morning or late in the evening, they should also ensure their bike is equipped with reflectors and a headlight.
The Michigan Personal Injury Attorneys with Michigan Injury Lawyers applaud the efforts being made to get more citizens of Michigan commuting on bicycles!
