Michigan Bicycle Accidents on the Rise as Number of Riders Increases

The popularity of cycling is growing across the state of Michigan with more bicycles recorded traveling along the state’ roadways than ever before. The Michigan Bicycle Accident Lawyers with Michigan Injury Lawyers point out that this increase in volume may lead to more collisions between cyclists and motor vehicles.

In 2012, there were a total of 1,616 accidents that resulted in the deaths of 20 cyclists. Such a crash recently claimed the life of a 25-year-old man and left his girlfriend critically injured. Reports show the crash happened at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Monday in the town of Clearwater.

According to a story from Bay News 9, the victims are seen riding a tandem bicycle along the road when police believe the driver of a 1997 Nissan pickup truck hit them. The truck fled the scene following the accident.

Collisions like these leave many cyclists wondering what they can do to stay safe from harm when riding. Experts tend to agree that wearing a helmet is one of the best ways to decrease the chances of injury or death in the event of an accident.

Michigan Injury Lawyers’s team of Michigan Personal Injury Lawyers are aware of how devastating bicycle accidents can be and encourage anyone who has been injured due to another person’s negligence while riding to discuss their legal options with an attorney.
