Two weeks ago, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the voluntary recall of all sterile medications manufactured by the Main Street Family Pharmacy due to concerns over contamination that could lead to patients developing serious Drug Injuries.
The agency announced they had received reports from seven citizens claiming they had developed skin abscesses at the site where they received injections of the company’s preservative-free methylprednisolone acetate. Further testing concluded that at least one of the abscesses was the result of a fungal infection.
According to an FDA press release, the agency recalled all of the company’s compounded medications out of precaution after contamination of a single product had been confirmed.
Anyone who recently used a medication compounded at the facility has been urged to discuss their concerns with their doctor or physician. Facilities in possession of affected medications have been instructed to contact Main Street Family Pharmacy to learn more about proper disposal and how to receive replacements.
The incident is similar to a recent case of compounded medications contaminated with a leaf fungus, which resulted in a fungal meningitis outbreak that claimed dozens of lives and left hundreds ill.
The Michigan Personal Injury Lawyers with Michigan Injury Lawyers are aware of the risks involved with using a contaminated medication. The firm may be able to help individuals who have been harmed by defective medications.
