At Michigan Injury Lawyers, we understand the financial stress you may be suffering if you can no longer work due to a disability. If you’re applying for Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits, you may be wondering how much compensation you can expect and when you’ll receive your benefits payments. Our Michigan SSD benefits attorneys want to help you learn more about the benefits you’re owed.

If you have questions about applying for SSD benefits or need assistance preparing an appeal, we’re here to help. Contact our law firm today—just dial (888) 454-0801 or fill out a free initial consultation form.

When Are SSD Benefits Paid?

The Social Security Administration (SSA) generally pays SSD benefits the month after you become eligible. For example, if you become eligible for benefits in January, the SSA pays the benefits to you in February.

Monthly payment dates vary depending on whether you’re receiving benefits as a:

  • Disabled Worker
Your payment date is determined by your birthdate. If you also receive Supplemental Security Income, your payment date falls on the third day of the month.
  • Spouse of a SSD Benefit Recipient
Payments are based on your spouse’s birthdate. If you’re also receiving SSD or Social Security retirement benefits, your payments will arrive based on whoever’s birthdate comes first—you or your spouse's.
  • Survivor of a Deceased SSD Benefit Recipient
The birthdate of your deceased spouse or parent determines your payment schedule.

You can find exact payment dates by visiting the SSA’s Schedule of Social Security Payments. If you have questions about your SSD payment schedule, Michigan Injury Lawyers wants to help.

Determining SSD Benefit Payments

SSD benefits are based off of a qualified recipient’s lifetime earnings while contributing to Social Security through payroll taxes. If you receive workers’ compensation benefits, public disability benefits, or pensions based on earnings that didn’t withhold Social Security taxes, your benefits may be reduced.

Our Michigan Social Security Disability benefits lawyers can review your case and help you understand the amount of benefits you’re eligible to receive and when you will receive them. Give us a call today, we’re here to help you get the compensation you deserve.
