Roundup Cancer Attorneys

Michigan Injury Lawyers  ►  Roundup Cancer Lawyers

For decades, scientists and other researchers have contended that Roundup, a herbicide designed to destroy weeds on contact, contains chemicals that may cause cancer. Recent lawsuits have succeeded in obtaining huge judgments against Monsanto, the company behind the weed and grass killing product, with more filings possible as more people step forward.

Did Roundup cause cancer, colitis, or breathing problems in you or someone you love? Has long-term exposure to Roundup products caused breathing issues?

Our Roundup cancer attorneys at Michigan Injury Lawyers can help you. Contact us today to see what options you have.

Who Has the Greatest Risk of Cancer From Roundup?

The World Health Organization has established a link between glyphosate, an ingredient in Roundup, and cancer.

Although research has uncovered the presence of glyphosate in food, you would need to ingest a good amount of it to become ill, let alone deathly sick. The people most at risk, therefore, are those who regularly work with Roundup itself.

These individuals often include:

  • Farmworkers
  • Garden center employees
  • Groundskeepers
  • Property owners with large gardens
  • Landscapers or lawn care workers
  • Those who work in nurseries
  • Neighbors of product users

Glyphosate can enter your airways by breathing it in. You can also ingest it without knowing it by eating crops grown by farmers who use it excessively. It can pollute your drinking water, too, which could lead to cancer or extreme sickness.

What Is the Roundup Cancer Lawsuit About?

Monsanto allegedly misled farmers, government agencies, and the general public into thinking that herbicides made up of glyphosate were safe. Additionally, public records show that Monsanto collaborated with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to refute the link between Roundup and cancer. Monsanto believes it was completely transparent about its Roundup products.

Glyphosate has been linked to numerous ailments, including:

  • Liver damage
  • ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease)
  • Inflammatory bowel disorder (IBD)
  • Autism
  • Sterility in males
  • Colitis
  • Kidney disease
  • Diabetes
  • Breathing problems including respiratory disorder
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Parkinson’s disease

The three California juries that ordered Monsanto to pay over $2 billion for not warning about cancer risks from Roundup concluded that both Ranger Pro and Roundup posed a “substantial” danger to individuals who were exposed to the product.

If you or your loved ones are suffering from cancer due to potential Roundup exposure, reach out to our experienced attorneys to begin the claims process as soon as possible.

Roundup Cases of Note

  • In Hardeman v. Monsanto Co., Edwin Hardeman filed suit against Monsanto alleging negligence in marketing, packaging, development, promotion, and manufacturing of Roundup. As a user for many years, Hardeman was diagnosed with cancer in 2015. A jury awarded the California resident $75 million, which was later reduced to $20 million by the court.
  • In Stevick v. Monsanto, the defendants sought compensatory damages for severe illness Roundup caused. Moreover, the complaint alleges that Monsanto violated federal law by distributing a misbranded herbicide.

How Does Glyphosate Cause Cancer?

Studies show that glyphosate is the main ingredient of Roundup. It can damage human DNA, which leads to cancer. It can also damage the chromosomal cells in the human body. One community also reported blood damaged chromosomal cells when it was sprayed in nearby fields.

All told, virtually all studies show that the government should strictly prohibit glyphosate because it is dangerous to humans. To date, 15 countries have banned Roundup and the use of glyphosate.

Sri Lanka has banned the private and commercial use of glyphosates, particularly out of concern that glyphosate was linked to fatal kidney disease in agricultural workers. The Brazilian government has also banned glyphosate.

Many U.S. states have also banned the use of glyphosate in many applications, including weed and grass killers.

What to Do if You Are Injured by Roundup

If you were exposed to Roundup directly, you may be injured and don’t know it yet. Take these steps to take care of yourself:

  • Seek immediate medical help if you ingested Roundup in any manner. If you become sick several days later, you should visit the emergency room to see if doctors can flush your system of glyphosate.
  • Keep the product in a safe place; do not discard it, as you will have little evidence that you used Roundup if you throw the container away.
  • Document dates and times when you used Roundup products, if possible. Establishing a timeline could help you down the road if you intend on holding Monsanto accountable.
  • Reach out to Michigan Injury Lawyers. We can provide you with an initial consultation to discuss your legal options.
  • Continue to get medical care until your doctor clears you. The last thing you want to deal with is late-stage cancer, which could lead to further complications or death.

Because Bayer purchased Monsanto for $66 billion in 2016, and you may notice lawsuits implicating Monsanto only, you should retain an attorney who can provide clarity on whom could bear liability for your injuries. Bayer planned to eliminate the Monsanto name from all products, although Bayer may still bear responsibility for injuries that predate the purchase of Monsanto.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
