Huron County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene of an accident at the intersection of Geiger Road in Fairhaven Township. A 1998 Chevrolet Tracker spun of control on the slick road, into the path of an oncoming 2012 Ford van. Within moments of the collision the Tracker burst into flames.
The driver of the Tracker, Michael S. Briggs Jr., who was alone in the vehicle, was pulled from the burning vehicle by Christopher M. Thick, the driver of the Ford van. Thick was assisted in his rescue efforts by another passing motorist. Despite the heroic actions of Mr. Thick and the unnamed motorist, Briggs was pronounced dead at the scene by Huron County Medical Examiner’s Office.
