Police Still Searching for Hit and Run

Every life is important, regardless of how it is lost. But when it’s a senseless loss, the tragedy is just that much worse. Take this incident that happened on the southbound M-53 freeway.

A man, described in his 40's, was standing or walking in the roadway at 6am near the 22 Mile Road overpass.  Perhaps he wasn't seen by the driver, or the driver was spacing out. Either way, this man was hit and killed by a vehicle.

The driver who hit this man sped away and police are still looking for him.  The accident itself closed M-53 down for around four hours and forced all of the traffic onto side streets and other areas.  This created traffic jams galore.

"The road closers were necessary to enable investigators to gather evidence." Shelby Police Chief Roland Woelkers said.  "Our evidence technicians had to come out and do all the measurements.  We're talking about a fatal accident."

They were closed during morning rush hour until 10am.  There was no description of the other vehicle, and the police are relying on the local townspeople to receive more information about the accident itself.

Every life is precious.  If you have had a loved one killed on Michigan's streets, we know about the pain and suffering that you are going through.  We know that you have a lot of questions that you need answered.
