Michigan Doctor Charged With Making Fraudulent Medicare Claims

Thousands of Michigan citizens are the victims of medical errors or doctors’ negligence each year. Many of these cases result in Michigan Medical Malpractice Claims and other legal action against the responsible parties.

Just this week, federal prosecutors with the U.S Attorney’s Office arrested a 48-year-old doctor in Oakland Township on charges of healthcare fraud. According to an article released by WXYZ Action 7 News, the doctor is accused of falsely diagnosing patients with cancer and continuing treatments on patients in remission so he could continue filing Medicare claims for reimbursements on their behalf.

One patient explained how the doctor diagnosed her with cancer seven years ago and prescribed her with Retuximab. The doctor told the patient she would need to take the medication for roughly three years, yet she was told at the end of that period to continue taking the medication.

As part of the investigation, the FBI confiscated thousands of pages of patient medical records from the doctor’s home and office. Anyone with questions about their medical records has been instructed to contact the U.S. Attorneys Office for more information.

The Michigan Personal Injury Lawyers with Michigan Injury Lawyers recognize how devastating a doctor’s negligence can be for patients. The firm is here to help anyone who has been harmed while under a physician’s care.
