In an accident that happened last month, a minivan driven by Anneka Vels, 17 years old, slide off the road and crash into a large tree as she was attempting to drive herself and her brother Landon Vels to school. The car reportedly burst into flames upon impact and despite the heroic efforts of witnesses as well as fire fighters, the blaze could not be extinguished. Both teens were killed as a result. The Principal at Heritage Christian Academy in Kalamazoo canceled all classes and all school activities upon learning of the tragedy. It was announced that classes would be canceled the following day as well, though grief counselors would be made available for students.
