Experts Say Taking Accutane® May Put Users’ Health at Serious Risk

July 31, 2013

The American Academy of Dermatology estimates that nearly 85 percent of Americans will experience acne at some point in their life. For many, the condition can last for a lifetime. Luckily, there are numerous medications that can effectively treat this condition, but what many may not realize is that certain medications may put the user at serious risk of suffering an adverse health condition.

Accutane® is one of the medications prescribed to those suffering from severe acne. The drug is also used in the treatment of brain and pancreatic cancer. It was taken off of the market four years ago, but generic versions are still available.

Accutane was removed from the market after experts discovered taking the medication could put users in danger of suffering Accutane Drug Injuries. Data concluded that the drug could lead to serious birth defects in children with mothers who took the medication while pregnant. A significant number of patients also developed suicidal thoughts and tendencies while taking the drug.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recognized these dangers, but still only requires that those receiving a prescription be warned of the dangers the medication may pose.

The Michigan Personal Injury Lawyers with Michigan Injury Lawyers recognize the dangers of Accutane. That is why the firm suggests discussing your case with an attorney if your health has suffered as a result of taking this medication.
